What is rich media blogging?
Rich media basically means anything other than just text and static images. This can be video, podcasts, comic strips, screencasts, etc. Rich media blogging can provide for a rich experience - both for the creator and the reader/listener/watcher. But not always. It can also present drawbacks for both the creator and the consumer. Here are some things you should keep in mind to help make it a good experience.
How should I rich-media-blog?
Pick an interesting topic and find a rich media environment that lends itself well to the exploration of your topic. Go out and create!
Something to assess and keep in mind while creating rich media blogs is to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Rich media blogging can be time-consuming because you have to plan for video or podcasts or screen casts or even digital imagery. Planning for and creating these elements can either go smoothly or become extremely frustrating. This often depends on your familiarity with the tools used for particular types of rich media. Try and choose something that you are familiar with - or find a partner with the skillz required.
But I want to do something COOL!
If you decide to tackle something you are not familiar with, remember to give yourself enough of a buffer before you have to post your work. You want everyone to see your cool rich media post and comment and give you feedback.
Always have a back-up plan, and don't be surprised if your original idea turns into something else completely!
I want to do video, and voice, and a comic and...
Don't overdo it! It might be better to focus on one or two types of rich media. Otherwise you risk confusing your readers or overwhelming them. Also remember to keep things short and simple - most people don't have the time or inclination to watch or listen to something that is more than about 6 minutes long - especially since many people don't get to the posts until the day of class!

Enjoy everything
Most if not all of us ran into problems, but we wrote about them and got support from our classmates. The class is as much about the experience as it is about the content, so keep that in mind and have a good time!
