Choosing a Starting Point for Travelogues
Some suggestions for finding a starting point for your travelogues:
- Work with something you're interested in. There is nothing less fun than researching something in which does not spark you interest. Travelogues allow you to explore many topics that are very fascinating for you, make it yours!
- Allow yourself enough time, especially if you are used to writing more traditionally formatted research papers. Writing in a blog format in ways that are useful and informative for others is its own skill and language that has to be learned.
- Try to be specific with your topic, but still open enough to allow yourself to "travel".
- The more you already know about the topic, the better.
- Or the less you know about the topic, the better. Be honest and let your audience learn/travel with you.
- Don't let preconceived notions dictate where it goes--let it develop organically.
- Take advantage of the time-frame of the travelogue to explore your topic through multiple angles. Remain three-dimensional and highly critical in your analysis.
- Seek out other individuals interested and actively involved in the area of your topic.
- Keep in mind the final format of the post when writing and choosing a topic.
- Do not underestimate the power of RICH media! If you don't particularly enjoy writing posts, try doing a podcast or a comic. By using more creativity in the way in which you express yourself, you'll be surprised by how much more you'll actually enjoy doing it!
- Have fun! (Yay!)
