Hi, please

Ain’t No Sunshine When He’s Gone

Before the format boo birds come out, let me just say I tried multiple ways to get this .mov file into mpeg4 to no avail.  Even Handbrake crashed on me three times, once after a reboot.  Here’s proof of that:

So much for simplicity.

So much for simplicity.

Behind the Music

Actually, I’m not convinced you heard any music, as my Mac kindly informed me AFTER I’d completed the simple slideshow, that the music would only play on authorized machines.  Not only is digital rights management (DRM) ugly, it is evil.  I would’ve picked a different song, e.g. gone to a free rights site.  Hopefully you hear the dulcet tones of Gwen Stefani and No Doubt!  I doubt they’d mind.

Video Killed the Camille Star

And I’m equally unsure you can even see the video, format quality issues aside.  It says it is still being processed even though the upload is complete and I have a url.  Fingers crossed.

Craig & Camille: The Break Up?

Let me put that ugly rumor to rest!  Essentially, I convinced Craig to fly solo on the output this week, after we met on Saturday to shoot more video.  I’m trying to hit a sacrifice pop fly so that our runners may advance and win the series with our final video.  In other words, the longer I spend on these interim posts, the worse the final will be because I have a limited amount of time.  Craig should still be allowed to hit homers in every game though, if he so chooses.

If you can see, and to a lesser extent, hear the slideshow above the break, then the commentary below will be a little more relevant.  Hopefully it will guard against complete failure.

Mirrors

Craig and I took a lot of images at Central Park over the weekend.  In the song we’ve chosen for the final video, there is a lot of talk about identity and mirrors.  The pond in CP seemed a fitting choice for a distinct form of urban mirror.  The pond, ducks and fresh air provide an urban oasis, but even here you can’t get close enough to see your reflection in the water, and I don’t mean this in a narcissistic sense, but rather in the sense that self-reflection leads to self-knowledge and action.  Fahget about it…the bars will keep you out.

Other mirrors in the slideshow include the You billboard in Times Square.

Urban Mashup

The street collage in Chelsea is especially interesting to me as the city is using borrowed forms to talk to us in a very specific way.  The primary image in the collage is from a famous photo from Diane Arbus, revealing a boy holding a grenade.  It is haunting even in this recycled and mashed up representation on a random wall in NYC.  What was this artist trying to tell us through her creation on a city wall?

And that’s all that we have time for today folks.  I don’t know about you, but this rich media stuff is killing me.  Until they figure out how to make the sharing as easy as the making, my cinematic days are numbered!

unfortunately didn’t hear any music =( but imagines something playing in my head while I watched =) I often try and think of a ’soundtrack’ to the world as it goes by – and sometimes the soundtrack is provided by the shuffle feature on my ipod.

thanks for sharing… and I am so so so sorry you’ve had such a hard time with this – it really shouldn’t be that hard! I’m no videographer, and it’s been a bit of a struggle and learning curve, but it really hasn’t been so bad.

I really like the themes of ‘city as a mirror’ and ‘urban mashup’ – some of those images were indeed moving and thought-provoking! yes, the slideshow embed should’ve been right above the content for the slideshow, but I followed what was going on =)

looking forward to your smashing finale!!
